In addition to being a part of a National District of Character, New Providence Middle School (NPMS) is proud to have earned recognition in numerous areas. Our designation, as a Blue Ribbon distinguishes and honors NPMS as a school that is academically superior and demonstrates dramatic gains in student achievement. Additionally, NPMS has been recognized by the NJ Department of Education as a model school for the successful implementation of the “Positive Behavior Support in Schools” (PBSIS) program. These three achievements are a testament to what can be accomplished when students, teachers, parents, and administrators work together toward the common goal of making NPMS a place where students thrive.
NPMS offers a comprehensive and rigorous educational experience for our students. Our Program of Studies allows all students to complete a full year in Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Health/Physical Education, and World Language. Within our Language Arts, Math and Science curricula, we offer students enrichment opportunities to further challenge and develop their skills and academic performance. In addition, every student has the opportunity to explore Coding, STEM, Robotics, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Practical Arts, Music, and additional Language Arts. Students can also take advantage of the many co-curricular activities which include Math Club, Yearbook, Choral Ensemble, Jazz Band, Peer Leaders, Student Council, Student Services Organization, Drama Club, Robotics Club, STEM club and Tech Club. Our co-curricular activities complement our challenging Program of Studies and provide students with an opportunity to develop leadership skills and contribute to the betterment of the school community.
NPMS has a very accomplished, dedicated and highly involved faculty. We believe in creating a school environment that meets the academic, civic, social and emotional needs of our early adolescent learners while promoting individual success. Our character education programs are centered around school and district-wide themes. Our school-wide theme of “Readiness, Responsibility and Respect” is incorporated into students’ daily routines. Our entire school community embraces this philosophy, as these values will prepare our students for high school as well as all their future endeavors. Previous district-wide themes include, “Step it Up, Kindness Counts, Be the Difference, Start Small End Big and NP... It Starts with Us. These themes incorporate school and community involvement and service and help to bring all district schools together with common character education goals.
We embrace parents and community members as partners in the educational process of our students, as they play an integral role in the success of our children. We work together to foster a meaningful teacher-parent relationship built on strong communication focusing on students’ needs. We are fortunate to have a very involved Parent-Teacher Organization that collaborates and complements the educational experience for our entire school community.
